The Healing Power of Water: Refreshing Your Body, Mind, and Spirit
Last night, I took a long, hot bath with Epsom salt, eucalyptus, spearmint, and a touch of apple cider vinegar. As I soaked, I felt my body relax, my mind quiet, and my spirit settle. In that moment, I was reminded that Father God created water not only to quench our thirst, but also to refresh, restore, and rejuvenate us. My skin and body welcomed it and rejoiced in the water He created.
I also found myself with a heart of gratitude—grateful for the blessing of clean water, for the ability to take a long, restorative bath, and for the simple provisions we often take for granted. As Psalm 107:8–9 reminds us, the Lord God satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness. He shows His goodness and mercy, even in the everyday moments. This bath was one of His acts of goodness that He showed me.
Water is a gift—one that supports our physical health, emotional well-being, and spiritual renewal.
Physical Benefits of Water
Father God created our bodies with a significant need for water. The human body is made up of approximately 60% water (and even more in children), and every system in the body depends on it. Father God strategically designed our bodies to have water in our skin, cells, muscles, organs, and even our bones. That’s pretty amazing; no wonder that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are his marvelous works. Psalm 139:14
Without water, the body cannot function properly. In fact, most people can only survive about 3 to 7 days without water, depending on conditions. This reminds us how essential water is to life itself.
Warm water, whether through baths, showers, or soaking, has powerful effects on the body:
Helps relax tense muscles and reduce physical discomfort
Improves circulation and supports overall body function
Promotes better sleep by calming the nervous system
Supports the body’s natural detoxification processes
Adding elements like Epsom salt and essential oils can enhance relaxation and provide additional soothing benefits.
Emotional & Mental Benefits
Water also plays a significant role in supporting emotional and mental well-being:
Calms the mind and reduces stress and anxiety
Creates space for stillness and reflection
Helps regulate emotions by slowing down the body’s stress response
Provides a sense of comfort and emotional release
Moments in water can become sacred pauses—an opportunity to step away from the noise of life and simply breathe.
Spiritual Renewal Through Water
Water is deeply symbolic throughout Scripture—representing life, cleansing, and renewal.
As I sat in the bath, I was reminded of Matthew 11:28–29 (TPT)—that Jesus invites us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened. He is our true Oasis. He is the Living Water who refreshes our souls. He is the well of water that never runs dry, but springs up into everlasting life (John 4:14).
Submerging the body in water can also serve as a meaningful reminder of our faith. Just as baptism represents being buried with Christ and raised into new life, entering the water can symbolize surrender, and rising out of it can remind us that we are walking in the newness of life.
In those quiet moments, we can reflect:
We are being renewed
We are being restored
We are being refreshed by His presence
We are being freed from the weight of sin and the cares of this world
Just as a bath washes the body and brings relief, the presence of God refreshes and restores the soul.
Simple Ways to Incorporate Water into Your Wellness Routine
Take a weekly “restorative bath” with calming elements
Use your shower time as a moment of prayer and reflection
Spend time near water (ocean, lake, or pool) when possible
Stay hydrated throughout the day to support your body
A Gentle Reminder
Taking time to care for your body and mind is not a luxury—it is necessary. Creating moments of rest and renewal allows you to show up more fully in your life, your relationships, and your walk with the Lord Jesus.
Water is one of the simplest ways Father God has given us to reset, refresh, and reconnect. We cannot live without water, just as we cannot live without our Lord Jesus.
Closing Reflection
As you move through your week, consider creating intentional moments of stillness. Whether it’s a long bath, a quiet shower, or simply sitting in peace, allow yourself to be refreshed—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
There is healing in stillness, renewal, and fullness of joy in the presence of God. Psalm 16:11
