When Life Keeps Happening: Invite Jesus In

As summer quietly gives way to fall, I expected to be reflecting on changing seasons, cooler mornings, and new beginnings.

Instead, our family found ourselves in another unexpected season.

My mother recently fell and fractured her knee and ankle.

As I spoke with my mother while she lay in her hospital bed, she quietly asked,

“Why did the Lord allow this to happen to me?”

I wished I had been there to hold her hand.

But I couldn’t.

My husband is recovering from his own fall earlier this summer. Although he is making steady progress and has begun physical therapy, he still depends on me because he is unable to drive.

At that moment, I found myself wishing I could be in two places at once.

Have you ever felt that way?

Wanting to care for everyone…

Yet realizing you simply cannot.

It is during seasons like these that I am reminded of a beautiful truth:

I cannot be everywhere.
But Jesus can.

I am limited.

He is not.

I may not be sitting beside every hospital bed…

But Jesus is.

I may not always be able to fix what is broken…

But Jesus is the Potter.

And He is the Master at working with broken, fragile, and imperfect clay.

When One Thing Happens After Another

My mother’s question caused me to pause.

Not because I had an easy answer…

But because our family has experienced one challenge after another this year.

Since February, it feels like one close family member after another has been in the emergency room or hospitalized.

Have you ever experienced life like that?

Before you have time to catch your breath…

Another phone call.

Another diagnosis.

Another unexpected expense.

Another disappointment.

Almost like watching dominoes continue to fall.

After one challenge after another, I found myself thinking:

“I must really tick the kingdom of Satan off with the women the Lord Jesus is saving and transforming.”

Yes, I said it.

I don’t pretend to know the reason behind every trial, but I do know that Scripture reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual battle:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12

As followers of Christ, we should not be surprised when we encounter trouble and opposition.

We are called to be the light of the world and ambassadors for Christ in a world that desperately needs His light.

Jesus Himself warned us that trouble would come:

“In this world you will have trouble.” — John 16:33

But He did not stop there.

He reminded us that He has overcome the world.

And because we belong to Christ, Scripture tells us that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us(Romans 8:37).

Think about that.

You cannot conquer something you have never had to confront.

You cannot experience victory without first facing something that needed to be overcome.

Every battle becomes another opportunity to discover God's faithfulness.

Our hope is not that we will live a life without trouble.

Our hope is Jesus Christ in the middle of the trouble.

He empowers us to walk through this world from His perspective rather than allowing our circumstances to determine what we believe about Him.

That means we must pray.

We must put on the mind of Christ.

We need our minds filled with godly wisdom, godly knowledge, godly discernment, and reverence for God's sovereignty—even when we do not understand what He has allowed.

Invite Jesus In

As you navigate your own life transitions, I encourage you to do something that sounds simple but can transform the way you walk through difficult seasons:

Invite Jesus in.

Invite Him into the uncertainty.

Invite Him into the disappointment.

Invite Him into your “life is happening” moments.

Invite Him into the waiting.

Invite Him into the unanswered questions.

Invite Him into the hospital room.

Invite Him into the caregiving.

Invite Him into the grief.

Invite Him into the place where you wish you could do more—but simply cannot.

And then trust Him there.

Sometimes the Miracle Is What Happens in Us

Daughter of the King, sometimes the greatest miracle isn’t that the Lord Jesus immediately changes our circumstances.

Sometimes the miracle is that He changes us while we walk through them.

He strengthens our faith.

He deepens our trust.

He matures our character.

He teaches us to depend on Him in ways we may never have learned otherwise.

And somewhere along the journey…

We discover that His peace never depended on our circumstances.

His peace was always found in His presence.

So, Daughter of the King, will you allow Jesus to be your Oasis?

Will you let Him be that safe place where you can rest when life keeps happening?

Will you allow His presence to refresh you, strengthen you, restore you, and fill you with His joy—even while you wait for circumstances to change?

I sure am.

Because I cannot be everywhere.

I cannot fix everything.

I cannot carry everyone.

And I was never created to.

But I know the One who can.

Daughter of the King, Jesus is your Oasis. ✝️
